"New signing Emerson Palmieri is not eligible for Thursday's second-leg tie in Denmark"

Unlucky.

Incorrect, Trundle.

Those rules don’t apply to qualifying games.

"I’d give him 20 mins tomorrow"

I dunno if the rules have changed since last season when your mob was in it, but he had to be registered before the first leg to be able to play in the second leg, cross yiddo son.

Re: Emerson Palmieri - signed
Nagel - fair points. 100-odd games over that period is not bad considering he's often had one or two supposedly 'better' left-backs ahead of him (Chilwell and Alonso, for example).

So we're not really talking about another Winston Reid here. Or, for that matter, another Winston Bogarde.

What is it with the name Winston?

Agree with the sentiment but you should probably include cup games in those stats, especially since he was playing for clubs in European competitions.

He played 71 games for Chelsea, not 33.
He played 37 games last season, not nearly 30.
In the last 4 seasons he played 100 club games and 27 internationals, not just 62 games.

I’d give him 20 mins tomorrow, then start with him on Sunday.

Unimaginative signing.

I reckon I could do Newman's job

Has to start Sunday, not an overwhelming signing but a decent one who should improve us.

He's a no risk signing, you know what you're getting. I'm fairly pleased with it, without being too excited. Will be interesting to see if he comes in straightaway for Cress, or could he play both?

Re: Emerson Palmieri - signed
HG - he's lived in England for three full years, so he speaks the language. And although he only played 33 games for Chelsea, he did also spend the best part of last season on loan - and in the first team - at Lyon.

So it's not like he hasn't played games. He's played 62 games in 4 seasons - including almost 30 last season. He's not exactly Winston Reid.

Re: Emerson Palmieri - signed
Definitely better as a wingback. He was good for Lyon and excellent for Italy in euros.

I do think we will go for a back 5.

Solid signing, decent pedigree, knows the league

Averaging 6 appearances per year over 5 years with Chelsea equates to knowing the league

It seems like extending the transfer window beyond the start of the season gives chancers like GSB* the excuse to see how the season starts before finishing their purchases.

*Yes, I still blame GSB. We were like this before Moyes, so the most you can blame Moyes for is not reforming GSB.

Re: Emerson Palmieri - signed
yes, but a different outcome to years ago when julian ended up like a semi cripple. loads come back just as strong, I'm not joining in with the negative bollocks. whatever happens now, the same whining wankers bring everyone down and it won't end until the manager is changed

southbankbornnbred 12:48 Wed Aug 24
Re: Emerson Palmieri - signed
TM - true, although I should point out that he has had a major knee injury. He did his ACL - otherwise known as knee knack - a few years back while playing for Roma.

It partially explains why he played so few games for them before getting fit again and joining Chelsea. IIRC he also had stiff competition at left-back at the time.

gph 12:47 Wed Aug 24
Re: Emerson Palmieri - signed
I didn't ask why we didn't sign him if his wage demands had been zero and he had a zero transfer fee. Because they weren't.

Thanks for the entirely uninformative answer, designed to make you look clever, and having exactly the opposite effect, BRANDED

Takashi Miike 12:45 Wed Aug 24
Re: Emerson Palmieri - signed
I don't think it's desperate, but I can see where people look at his lack of games & worry. Chelsea have been stockpiling good players for many seasons, and loads will have similar appearance numbers. I take it as a positive that he didn't cost much, dropped his wage demands to get the move done, is a young 28, loads of miles left on the clock and decent experience in europe & the euros
